Mobility

PARK4SUMP

Parking management is, without a doubt, an important part of sustainable urban mobility and planning (SUMP) for any city. It has been demonstrated that correct parking management in cities generates various advantages, especially, for example, the influence on freeing up public space, enabling its use in a more beneficial way, supporting local businesses, reducing the so-called parasite-traffic, generating revenue, increasing local safety, or even supporting the creation of urban planning with a view to making the cities more attractive for their citizens and for those visiting them. However, despite these benefits, this is clearly one of the most underdeveloped segments in the majority of European cities.

PARK4SUMP is a project supported by the European Horizon 2020 Programme, with the precise aim of intervening in this issue. To do so, its overall concept centres on defining the best parking management models, taking advantage of the different contexts and realities of the European cities to ensure a holistic approach to the different areas of mobility. Its main objective is to support and encourage more sustainable lifestyles, which are less dependent on traditional cars, by creating innovative policies and means of planning which enable an optimised use of existing infrastructures. It is therefore expected to contribute towards the definition of parking policies that enable the quality of life of citizens and companies in the cities to be improved, and thereby make the cities more sustainable.

PARK4SUMP was recently approved and has the participation of Lisboa E-Nova as the representative of the city of Lisbon, in a consortium led by MOBIEL21, an SME specialised in sustainable mobility. Besides Lisbon, another 15 European cities are also involved, namely: Krakow, La Rochelle, Freiburg, Gdansk, Tallinn, Reggio Emilia, Trondheim, Zadar, Vitoria Gasteiz, Shkodër, Rotterdam, Slatina, Sofia, Sint-Niklaas and Palma.

During the course of the project, Lisboa E-Nova, together with EMEL, will promote the implementation of pilots and demonstrative actions in the city, trying and testing different solutions.
